The Great Race To Promontory
Registration is closed and swag is sold out.
Imagine a world where the only way to move across land was by foot, horse or wagon! Those were the only options for Americans when crossing from 'Sea To Shining Sea'. Until the Transcontinental Railroad was completed at Promontory Summit, Utah on May 10, 1869. To commemorate tho occasion, officials from The Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads drove a ceremonial Golden Spike connecting the two coasts and the nation.
We join with the Golden Spike National Historic Site to celebrate this momentous occasion 150 years later and you're invited—sign up now!
You can run, walk or hike this race and do it wherever you want! Sign up now.
Note: We have sold out of our first batch of medals, but more are on the way! For those that registered after 5/3/19, your medal will not ship until late-June (to those that report their finish time by the deadline.)

Shirt/Bib Info & Deadlines
- Register by April 21 & your shirt/bib will arrive by May 9
- Register after April 21 and your swag will not ship until Mid-June
We will place two shirt orders for this event — one before and one after. Everyone that registers for a shirt and/or bib will get it - regardless of whether you finish your race. ALL SHIRTS HAVE THE SAME IMPRINT.
*Note: registrations are a la carte, so you get to choose what swag you want
Finisher Medal Info & Deadlines
The medal has two “sliders” that represent the engines that met at Promontory Summit with a removable Golden Spike rail nail as well. Note: while this design is an artistic representation, there is also an attempt to honor the reality of 1869 US States and Territories (e.g. the Dakotas are one territory).
Only those that register for a medal will get one, AND only if they report a finish time.
Medals will start to ship shortly after the event, but only to those that report their time. We sold out of our first batch of medals 5/3/19. We have ordered more, but they won't be here until late June. The last day to report your finish time is June 8, 2019.
Add On Options
We are also providing our usual customized printed bibs for this event. This can be added once you make your registration option selection.
The official race day is as listed above. Registration will be open through that day as supplies last.
To maintain the spirit of traditional events, we believe a finisher reward should be earned by finishing the race. We verify that you finished by requiring that you report your time to your account. If you do not report, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REWARD.
As far as we’re concerned, race day is as listed above and we anticipate that most people will race that day - BUT - the advantage of having a virtual race is you can do it when and where works best for you. So it’s up to you. Because we strive to honor the tradition of in-person races, you’ll receive messages as if that is race day for you, but just know that we’re okay with it if you need to do something different.
A portion of each registration will be donated to the National Park Foundation.
Boring Yet Important Notes: 1) All swag usually ships separately and all timelines are based on US Domestic shipping via the USPS. 2) In rare cases where the shirt style/color we list is out of stock, the next closest color will automatically be substituted for you. 3) If you intend on registering more than one person for this race, please add them to your account BEFORE you register yourself. You can do that in "Profile" once you're logged in. Watch this video to see how this is done. 4) For our US Territory friends, on your address, please list your two-letter country code in "State" and then "United States" in the country field. (AS, GU, MP, FM, PR, VI, MH).
